Achievements in sports
Václav Syrový belonged to the successful representatives of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic in weightlifting in 1955–1962.
His greatest achievement was the 8th place in the Olympic Games in Rome and 5th place in the World Championship in Stockholm.
He was a member of the sport club Vyšehrad Prague, Lokomotiva Kralupy, UDA – an Army Military Club
His personal best performances in the heavy weight category over 90 kg are:
Clean and jerk: 172.50 kg
Snatch: 151.20 kg
Tug: 130.50 kg

After finishing his sports career he starts to run as a hobby.
To the highlights of his amateur running times belong the 4 times finished marathons. His best achieved time is 3h 39 min from 1973.
He also achieved good results in his young age, when Otakar Jandera from the sport club Rudé Hvězdy Prague (Red Star) noticed his talents and where he then put the shot and threw the discus.
